Security alarms

Security alarms help to lessen the odds of a burglar entering your home; however security alarms do not eliminate the threat of burglary. There are many things that homeowners should do, even if they have alarms, to further protect themselves.

• Strong locks on doors and windows are a good deterrent. Deadbolts and bars on windows are some of the best options in this type of protection.
• Keep the exterior of your home well lit. Bright porch lights and lights on motion sensors dissipate the veil of darkness that thieves seek.
• Have your phone line buried and make sure that it is not exposed on the exterior of your house. Thieves know that alarms transmit outside the home via phone lines and so they often cut the exposed phone lines. You can prevent this by having your phone line buried.

While security alarms are a great way to promote safety for you and your family, there are other additional necessary measures to take, such as those listed above. It is great to have an alarm system, but be sure that you know how to use it and then make sure that you do arm it so it will function as a protective device.
